What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a collaborative, assessment-based approach to developing effective interventions for problem behaviors. PBIS emphasizes the use of proactive, educative, and reinforcement-based strategies to achieve meaningful behavior and lifestyle outcomes.
The aim of PBIS is to build effective environments in which positive behavior is more effective than problem behavior.
Teachers, staff, and students are able to state the expectations and rules of the school. Students are directly taught these expectations on the first day of school. Teachers know what behaviors to manage and what behaviors the administration will manage. Students are rewarded for meeting the expectations and for following the rules.
